Prague, Czech Republic

Overview: Well, well! What a surprise this city was. Prague was our fourth stop on this vacation and I was in awe. I didn’t have any expectations or any knowledge about the city, except for what people told me.Numerous people have said that they loved this place and how it’s a gem. So, I thought why not? Plus they’re not apart of the EU, and their dollar is the Koruna, which is dirt cheap. Prague is one of the oldest standing cities, seeing that it did not get destroyed by the Germans during WWII. Almost everything is still intact, it’s incredible.

We didn’t have any tours planned for this city, besides celebrating my 29th birthday! That’s right, I got to  celebrate my birthday in Prague, and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I can’t wait to come back and visit!

How we got there:

We used our Euro Pass and took the train from Munich to Prague. The train ride was about five and half hours. This reservation did not give us first class seats. In fact, the whole thing was weird. This train had compartments. It was like we stepped into the Harry Potter Hogwarts Express train. Luckily, we had the compartment to ourselves and were able to stretch out.

Where we stayed:

The Augustine: Luxury Collection– One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. This is a part of the Starwood Collection, and is special because property used to be a monastery back in the day. It was converted into the hotel and still has the influences of the monastery all around. Including the cocktail menu. They have recipes dating back to the Middle Ages.  I loved staying at this hotel because of the location. We were close enough to the tourist attractions, but far away enough from all the people. The streets were quiet with locals and boutique shops. I used the cash/points option for this stay because all of the other hotels were sold out. The points were 6,000 plus $110 USD per night. I didn’t have enough of the Starwood Points, so I purchased 4,000 for only $122 USD. I was slightly worried about staying here because I imagined everything being old and dusty. But I was wrong! It was up-to-date and very sleek. The hotel has a wellness spa as well as a courtyard in between the restaurant and the bar. The decor was eerily beautiful and the service was amazing. I received an email from the Concierge a few days prior to our arrival and asked if I needed anything. We setup a car service transfer from the train. He was prompt and extremely informative for only €34 euros. Rating: 4.8 out of 5

Black Angels BarIf you are a cocktail connoisseur, then this place is for you! This bar was ranked fourth in the world back in 2014. The bartender is ranked fifth in the world. There is no need for a menu. Just tell the bartender what type of liquor you want and watch him go to work.

Charles Bridge

John Lennon Wall– What would be considered graffiti to some, it would be art to others. This wall was created in dedicated to John Lennon after died. It then grew into a beautiful masterpiece- written poetic quotes and love poems fill this wall in all it’s glory.

Where we ate:

Augustine Hotel Restaurant– So incredibly good! I had the white tomato bisque soup and a salad.

Kampa Park Restaurant– This restaurant sits next to the river with the perfect view of the bridge. We stopped here for my birthday dinner and while it was chilly outside, our table had a heater and they had pashminas for us. Dinner was delicious! And to top it off, the restaurant has a private driver that will take you within a two-mile radius for free. I love it! Cost: $$

Valoria– I spotted this restaurant as we were overlooking from the Prague Castle. A trendy place to go on weekends as they have outdoor seating and an upper-deck area the gives a great view of Prague. Our server was extremely attentive and very helpful with menu selections. The executive chef even came out to assist serving our meal. Cost: $$
