Restaurant of the Month- Twain

Restaurant of the Month- Twain

Recently, my mom made the move to Portland, OR for a new job. This was a pretty hard decision for her to make because she really didn’t want to leave the city she has called home all her life. To go to a brand new city, with new neighborhoods, no friends, and no idea what lies ahead is scary. But it’s a decision I am happy that she made.

My mom has spent her life making sacrifices for me, and I want her to be able to finally live for herself. And to not worry about me anymore, after all I am 31 years old. I am so proud of her, taking on a new chapter in her life!

To celebrate this momentous occasion, we decided we needed one more glorious meal together. I picked the restaurant, Twain. Located in the heart of Logan Square, inspired by the writer Twain himself. The Midwestern cuisine will eat away at your soul.

Decor: We had the early bird special for dinner. So, when we arrived the restaurant was empty, which allowed us to get a full glimpse of the bright wooden interior design. When I looked around, the vibe was very much comfort, simple, and sleek. Not flashy at all.

Cocktails: Order the Penicillin. I promise you won’t regret it

Food: The menu had my mouth watering as soon as I glanced as it. I love when that happens, because I love options, and typically when they’re tons of things that I want, the food ends up being pretty good! Here’s what we ordered:

Chicken & Dumplings

The Corn Sticks (bread), Wood Grilled Oysters and the Sloppy Marrow (appetizers), Chicken & Dumplings and the Surf & Turf (entrees), the Twice Baked Potato Gnocchi (sides) and the Cherry Bread Pudding (desserts). I LOVED EVERYTHING! The bold savory flavors had my tastes buds going crazy. The best part about our meal was the “luge” with the Sloppy Marrow- this consisted of sloppy joe’s mixed with the marrow. Once, you have scooped out the guts, you take a cup of a french licquer and pour it down the center of the bone and you drink! Such a fun concept!

Overall: I am head over heels for this place. The service was fantastic. The vibe isn’t stuffy and you feel at home. I couldn’t recommend this place more. If you are looking for something off the beaten path in Chicago, this is a must try!

Travel Guide: How to Spend Five Days in Paris

As some of you may know, Paris is my favorite city in the world. I sleep, eat and now event speak the Parisian life. I try to visit at least once a year and would love to eventually move there for a year. So, I recently made a quick five-day trek to Paris with my mom and one of my girlfriends. For those that have been to Paris before, you may find some itinerary somewhat helpful. For those that have never been, you can add this to your to-do list.
