Cold Storage

While January can be a brutal month for Chicagoans, it doesn’t stop us from having a good time.

Happy hour is officially back in the Windy City and Cold Storage is the place to visit! Located in the hip area West Loop/Fulton District, and attached to the delicious Swift and Sons, this place is absolutely fabulous.

Happy hour runs from 3pm-6pm and consists of $3 draft beers and $1 oysters. Their regular menu is also reasonably priced. They offer a variety of seafood towers ranging from $20 to $75.

I arrived around 5:40pm and the place was packed. I wasn’t aware that you could make reservations at this spot, so we has to wait for a couple to leave the bar and snagged their seats. The music is lively but not too loud so that you can’t have a conversation.

This occasion we picked the small tower which comes with three oysters, shrimp and mussels. My friend and I decided to take advantage of the happy hour and add on an additional three oysters to our tower.

The food took a while to come out which was kind of disappointing considering the size of our tower, quantity of food and we were sitting at the bar staring directly at all of the seafood. But when the food did come out, it was delicious, flavorful and the perfect portion for what we were looking for.

The crowd died down around 6:30pm and we continued to munch on our fries and sip on our wine. This place is cool and casual. The crowd is mixed with a young and old generations. People dressed down or dolled up. A great place to check out and grab some bites then mosey your way to Swift and Sons for an amazing steak.

Cold Storage is definitely this month’s restaurant pick!
